I notice errors and flaws that other people seem to miss.
How the test works
Each statement belongs to one of the nine types, eight statements per type. Answer for how you usually are, not how you would like to be. When you finish, every type gets a score from 0 to 100 and your highest score is your type. Your wing is the higher of the two types beside it on the circle.
The Enneagram describes nine patterns of motivation: what each type wants most, what it tries to avoid, and the habits that follow. Two people can behave the same way for different reasons and land on different types, which is why the statements ask about what drives you as well as what you do.

Questions about the Enneagram test
- Is this Enneagram test free?
- Yes. The test, your type, your wing and your nine scores are free, and we never ask for your email to show them. If you want more, the full report costs $19 once. You can stop at the free result.
- How long does the test take?
- 72 statements, one at a time. Most people finish in 8 to 10 minutes. Your progress is saved in your browser, so you can close the tab and carry on later on the same device.
- How accurate is it?
- Any self-report test reflects how you see yourself on the day you take it. We wrote these statements for this site and have not run a validation study on them, so treat your top type as a strong lead, not a verdict. If two types score close together, read both descriptions and ask which one matches your reasons, not only your behavior.
- What is a wing?
- Your wing is whichever of the two types next to yours on the circle you score higher on. A Type 4 with a stronger 5 than 3 is written 4w5. The wing does not change your type; it adds some of the neighbouring type's habits.
- What do the stress and growth numbers mean?
- The lines inside the Enneagram figure connect each type to two others. Under pressure, people often pick up the less helpful habits of one of them; when they are doing well, they often show the better side of the other. Your result names both.
- Is the Enneagram scientific?
- The Enneagram is a model for reflecting on motivation, not an established scientific measure the way the Big Five is. Many people find it useful for understanding why they react as they do. If you want a research-based measure, take our free Big Five test as well.
